Muslim-Muslim ticket, slap on Northern Christians-Philippines-based pastor

A Nigerian cleric in the Philippines, Rev. Tony Marioghae, on Thursday pleaded guilty to the decision of All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to choose a Muslim, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate for the 2023 election, describing it as “stupid” and a slap in the face to the Christians of Northern extraction.

He also warned that Nigeria must fix it by 2023, as “we risk moving into the abyss of catastrophe because of our poor political choices.”

According to him, although Tinubu’s argument about competence as the reason for choosing Shettima is credible, there he argued that there are also talented Christian political leaders from the Northern region who can also praise him.

Marioghae, Presiding Bishop of The Evangelical Ark Mission International, Philippines, the objections in an interview with journalists in Abuja.

He said the APC standard bearer should have taken into account the sensitivities of the various religions in the country before making his final decision.

The cleric warned that the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket would not promote trust between people of different faiths, stressing that there was too much fragmentation in the country.

Marioghae said, “There is a lot of mistrust among people of various religions, especially Christians who doubt the sincerity of others.

“Under the prevailing circumstances, it would be foolish to carry a ticket to the Muslim-Muslim presidency even if it is politically correct. It would be foolish to pursue that path of action.

“If I was in that situation, I looked at the sensitivity of the subject matter to calm people down.

“The Muslim-Muslim ticket does not promote trust. When you have two major dominant religions in this country. The right thing to do is, for the sake of peace, bring everything.

“When it comes to competence, we have many Christians who are capable of acting as Vice President like we Muslims have.

“It’s simply a slap in the face of Christians to say that throughout the North, we don’t have competent Christians.”

Speaking about why Nigeria should do it right in 2023, Marioghae said, “We can no longer condemn the culture of impunity, corruption, division and religious violence unleashed by the internal and external force of return to weaken the purpose and destiny of Nigeria.

“It is dangerous for us to approach the brink of disaster because of our poor political choices. If we do not do it right this time, we will face disasters and the abominable fate of failed nations.

“We must develop the moral will power to overcome our challenges and ugly past to achieve prosperity for all.

“Therefore, we must advance ideas and principles that enhance our potentials and prevent conspiracy theories and lies that promote division.”

The Bishop further explained that in order for the country to achieve its development goals by 2023 and beyond, the people must use the highest power of democracy to remove the evil leaders and get the capable ones by ballot. box.

“Your vote is your power to guide Nigeria towards greatness, success and development with a new paradigm shift.

“Nigerians must reject politicians who appeal to their worst instincts and embrace those with godly qualities and principles, with a patriotic zeal to build the country and restore hope to our people.

“Nigeria’s rise is the glory of the black race. Sadly, despite our vast mineral and human resources, Africa is at the mercy of exploitative international economic institutions due to lack of financial discipline and short vision of our political leaders.
