‘Flight Delays’ and ‘Flight Cancellations’ Dominate Google Trends

This is something you might have expected two years ago, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when air travel around the world stopped.

But two years later, in the summer of 2022, internet search terms related to ‘flight delays,’ ‘flight cancellations’ and ‘compensation for delayed flights’ are rising on Google Trends.

According to Google Trends and its Chicago-based public relations firm, M Booth, searches for flight cancellations and delays have reached an all-time high this month since the pandemic began in March 2020, as well as interest to search the flight status. People flock to Google, the world’s largest and most popular search engine, to ask ‘which airlines are canceling their flights’ and ‘how to pay for a delayed flight.’

In the United States, search interest on “flight status” hit its highest peak this month, and “expected flight delays tomorrow” rose 450 percent last week.

“Why flights are overbooked” and “flight fees are overbooked” have nearly doubled in the past week, and “which airlines are canceling flights” more than doubled in the past week.

Here are the top questions internet users ask according to Google Trends:

– How to get compensation for delayed flights?

– Why so many flight delays?

– How many flights are delayed today?

– What does flight delay mean?

– Why were flights canceled?

– What to do if the flight is canceled?

– What happens if the flight is canceled?

– How to know if the flight has been canceled?

– Will the airline pay for the hotel if the flight is canceled?

– Does travel insurance cover the hotel if the flight is canceled?

If your flight is interrupted, you have rights as an air traveler and you may also be eligible for compensation.

“In cases of cancellation, travelers can claim up to $ 700 if a flight is canceled within 14 days of departure, if, when you boarded a replacement flight, your new arrival time was very different to your original flight, and if the reason for the cancellation is in the control of the airline, ”Rosa Garcia, Legal Tactician at AirHelp told TravelPulse.
